Romance, After Sixty…by Robert M. Katzman
(copyright May 1, 2011)
Â
For me, and perhaps for you..
Â
Romance is rubbing her feet
While she’s sleeping
Snuggling while she’s awake
Â
Romance is dancing in the kitchen
To music only we remember
Â
Sitting in the driveway
Talking
Dreaming
Planning
Smiling
Â
Romance is agreeing
Not about what our children didn’t do
But what they did
And remembering the rocks along the way
Â
Romance is walking slower
Through a cool leafy forest
Because she needs to walk slower
Even on a level path
Â
Once we hiked up
A smoking Vesuvius
Things change
Â
Romance is dreaming of where
We’ll never go
And what we’ll never do
When we get there
Â
We’ll never have Paris
But we can hold hands
In French movies
In Italian restaurants
And on starry nights
Â
Starry nights are everywhere
Â
Romance is holding her hand
When we cross the street
So she doesn’t trip
Â
Romance is holding her hand
For no useful reason at all
Â
TV, Billboards
Say
Buy her Flowers and Candy!
But really
Soon they’re just
Dried petals and sugar
Â
Songs say
“Young and in loveâ€
Like there’s a limit on how long
Â
Takes decades to figure it out
Â
Romance is holding her hand
In the movies
And
Rubbing her feet
While she’s asleep

Poetry? For me, writing poetry is not an option.
It’s a response to emotion. Like cigarette smoke,
it’s fast-flowing, shapeless and with little time to capture it.
Writing poetry in an imperative. I say what I feel compelled to say.
I sell my five published books via mail order and accept major credit cards.
I don’t use PayPal. I just talk to people on the phone.
Fast, reliable service. Read my stories and see what you think.
I’m also available for hire to read my true Chicago stories to organizations
and answer all questions. I autograph my books when I sell them.
I am currently seeking an agent to do more readings.
Feel free to call me at the number above.
