Small boy swinging on an old tire

Hanging from a thick branch

Of an old willow tree

Sun is shining, the air cool

A black cloud floats by

Blots out the sun

Cold raindrops start to fall

He’s swinging on a big old tire

He won’t let go

***

The rain pouring on his hair

Running down his face

Jeans plastered to his knees

He keeps swinging in the dark

And he won’t let go

He’ll never let go

***

Teenaged boy

Lying in the back seat

Of a Candy-Apple red Chevy

Clutching the love of his life

Wind starts to howl

The car starts rocking

Fat raindrops splattering

On the windshield

But he won’t let go

***

Windows steam up

Damp clothes scatter

Lightning explodes

On their flushed young faces

But he won’t let go

He’ll never let go

***

Old man standing by

A newly filled grave

The black earth rounded

The others all gone

The cold rain falls on his bare grey head

Drops silently sinking into the grave

Running down his neck

Soaking his shirt

But he won’t let go

***

His mind filled with

Merry-go-rounds of Kodak

Places, children, parties

The slow ride up

The swift ride down

Rain puddles at his feet

He shivers in his overcoat

But he won’t let go

He’ll never let go

***

Bob
Someone said that life is a collection of memories. The older we are the more we have and the more we want to “hold on”.It makes us alive and connected. Many memories came to me as I read your poem. Well done my friend. Paul

As I reflect on what you’ve written, I can’t let go of it! Now do a matching one on time- how as we grow older, each year goes faster.
Good stuff, good imagery.
