Gone
Last week, I sent an email to many of my closest friends and associates announcing my imminent departure to Europe where I will move on to a recently purchased sailboat. I included in that email a list of the most common questions people had asked when I told them of my plans. Here is a slightly modified version of that list:
Q. Are you retiring?
A. That is a nice thought but, no. My company, Epiphyte LLC has purchased an office in Holland. A picture is attached. You might notice its resemblance to a sailboat. This is a mobile office and we will continue to work from it wherever it may take us.
Q. Are you renouncing your US citizenship?
A. No, we are just looking for some new scenery.
Q. Aren’t you afraid of pirates?
A. No. We sold our TV 6 weeks ago. Since then, the world has become a
much safer place.
Q. Where will you get food?
A. I don’t know. People in Europe have been finding food somewhere for thousands of years. We will follow someone and see how they do it. With the possible exception of England, I think we will be able to find something edible most anywhere we go.
We left California on Tuesday morning and arrived in Iceland Wednesday morning. During a stop over in Seattle, I managed to break my camera. Being in Iceland without a camera was too much to bear so my first objective after checking into a hotel was to get a replacement. The first result is below:
Notice how clear the air is. This is what it looked like Wednesday. Today, Friday, it is not at all clear. A big cloud of volcanic ash has blown in. It looks a bit like fog but it is dry and plays havoc with some people’s sinuses.
I hope this will have no effect on my flight out Sunday. That is when I go to Netherlands to move aboard the boat.
