A catch in my throat

When I try to speak truth

Words splatter on the page

People still demand proof

When did it happen?

What, where and why?

Can’t I let go

And just let it die?

Passion shoved forward

Like a rock up a hill

What I lost keeps leaving

Like a hole I can’t fill

My pen is alive

Pulsating with rhyme

Past, present and future

Smashing through time

I can write about pain

Hate and derision

Homes that break

And a vanished horizon

Love lost in the night

And a bed with a ghost

Shattered careers

And what mattered most

God-damned scribbled words

Slashing with rage

And I think I can fix it

With black marks on a page

Awesome Bob- loved it. And, so true in your case! Brad

I would guess that people who do not follow your writing would not understand this poem. Perhaps someone who has experienced writers block or similar may. I have the same feelings, lately, when speaking at friends and family events. I find it emotionally challenging. I do enjoy the times very much, but old memories keep flooding my mind at those times. Keep putting it out there, it feels good anyway. Steve

Brad, I wrote it between a double feature at a movie theater, and asked the cashier at the candy counter to give me some paper before I forgot it.

It just sprang from my mind with the rhymes assembled and everything. A mystery, really. Probably subconscious.

I wonder if other people will comment and if it expresses what other people feel? That’s what a poet’s supposed to do, in part.
